A New Home for the Website

If any of you have been trying to post comments lately, I apologize for the problems. My web hosting company, Fidelity Hosting, has been completely unreachable the last few weeks, ever since they broke my connectivity to the database back end that drives this site. After trying for over two weeks to contact somebody, anybody, about the problems, I finally resolved to move the site to a new hosting company. I chose WestHost, and we’ll see how that goes. Everything should be back online now, except the baby website, which I hope to have working soon.

Our Little Audrey

As promised, here are finally some photos of our Audrey. Audrey is, by our best guess, part Labrador Retriever and part Border Collie. We adopted her from Lifeline Puppy Rescue near Brighton, Colorado.

The Pitter-Patter of Little Patten Feet

Not the most timely on keeping this updated, I know. But I’m so very excited to be able to tell the world: we’re having a baby! Jennie is due in late May.

The grandparents-to-be are, of course, very excited. We told them all this weekend. Read more…

$CO, $CO, $CO

I know I’m beating this thing to death, especially since nobody who drops by my site much cares, but here’s a few more items about everyone’s favorite Linux trash-talker.

The case, and SCO’s continued assertions that black is white, up is down, and that software licenses can’t give users the right to copy, is starting to make the mainstream press. Ed Quillen of the Denver Post wrote this column today. Funny, I’ve been making pretty much the same arguments since Disney first bought the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act in 1996. Read more…

Boy, Do Those Talking Heads Need Practice!

Saw this in a BBC article:

A White House spokesman later dismissed Mr Gore’s statements, saying that the American people knew “the president’s commitment to the security of the United States and to winning the war on terrorism and our economic security”.

So the White House admits it’s waging war on our economic security?

Distraction After Distraction

My apologies to everyone who has been waiting to hear news from me. I have been swamped with stuff ever since the last entry.

As many of you know, I am now married to the wonderful and beautiful Jennifer Sara. We’ve been at it for over 6 weeks now (since June 14th), and while living with someone certainly creates its own set of problems, I have never been happier.

Having not made a personal entry for almost 3 months, I’m starting to realize how out of the loop you must feel, dear reader. It’s not the kindest way to do it, but I’m going to bring you up to speed in bullet-points:

A Web Proxy Hack for CVS

If you’re like me, you are behind a crazy-restrictive firewall, that only allows outbound traffic through a web proxy. Occasionally, I have need of non-release software, like the latest CVS source from the ant-contrib project. The stupid thing is, the latest CVS packages don’t include proxy support. After hours of searching, I finally found an old patch by Andy Piper and Jim Kingdon that added HTTP proxy capabilities, but it wouldn’t work against the latest sources. So I spent a few hours hacking it into the latest release (1.12.1).

Poor George Steinbrenner

Boo hoo. Poor old George. Interleague play isn’t going to let his Yankees pad their lead on the Red Sox this year, so it must be unfair. This man is the worst sport in the world, I swear. Who else complains about their schedule when they are in first place in their division and make more money than any other team in their sport?
