The Dream is Over

I had asked David if he wanted to have lunch on Thursday, and he said he didn’t think he’d have time. So I was a little surprised when he called me Thursday morning and said, “You still want to have lunch? I have all afternoon.” Turned out, they laid off all of Mirim. I was only the first. It’s hard not to feel a bit of vengeful satisfaction, but mostly I feel badly for all of my former co-workers. They even laid off Jim, who had been with Quark for 6 years, which just goes to prove that they didn’t think about this at all.

Katherine had a party for all of us that got the boot yesterday, which was nice since I hadn’t said my goodbyes the other day. Despite the circumstances, we all had a lot of fun. I really wish I had venture capital behind me for a really good idea. I would hire all of them. I guess Fred Ebrahimi gets what he deserves if he thinks it makes good financial sense to lay off his best team.

On the bright side, Jennie gets home tomorrow. She’s been gone for two whole weeks, and I’ve missed her like crazy. Of course, she’ll be home just in time to nurse me through having my tonsils out. I wish she didn’t have to put up with so many things going wrong in my life these days. I feel like she never gets to be with me in good times. Nonetheless, I am much happier with her in my life.
