Some Thoughts on the BCS

Now that it’s all over, here are my thoughts…

To all you LSU fans out there: congratulations, and I hope you wait another 45 years for your next one.

To all you USC fans out there: up yours. Your team couldn’t have hung with either Oklahoma or LSU, and for you to “share” the national championship is a joke.

To all you KSU fans out there: the next time you mess up someone’s perfect season, could you at least win your bowl game?

To the sportswriters and “coaches”¹: It’s hypocritical to penalize Oklahoma for losing a conference title game when your pretender to the throne didn’t even play in one. The BCS is not a failure, it did exactly what it should have done – protected the two teams who belonged in the National Championship from your ignorance, ineptitude, contempt for strength of schedule, and bias against all teams that don’t play on the East or West coasts.

To the BCS Committee – don’t you dare change the formula to boost the human polls. The computer polls and strength of schedule components are there to balance out against human bias. If you give the two human polls a greater share, you’re only going to shoot yourselves in the foot the next time they can’t agree on the #1 and/or #2 teams (probably next year). Oh, and give us a playoff, even if it’s just the top 4 teams. I’m sick of the whining.

¹: Most ballots in the “Coaches’ Poll” are not submitted by the coaches, but usually by their athletic department’s Sports Information Directors.
